I was contracted by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to provide consultative services for BURA (Backup Recovery and Archive), DR (Disaster Recovery) and BC (Business Continuity) activities for a high profile client. My role was to be the SME (Subject Matter Expert) for a very large heterogeneous storage environment, including a large physical compute and multi-hypervisor (VMware, KVM) virtualized environment. The deliverable to HPE’s client was to include a concise examination of their current environment, and provide detailed documentation for a future state that meets the Business Recovery and Continuity findings detailed in the BIA (Business Impact Analysis) requirements. In addition to this deliverable, we were to provide process and policy recommendations, best practices, transformation roadmap and new Architectural design candidates with estimated costs. This information was presented and well received by the Business owners and stakeholders, President, CEO and Board of Directors. The deliverables will be used as a ‘starting point’ for additional activities inclusive of forecasting funding, budgeting and prioritizing corporate direction and transformation.

Equipment and software usedin these environments were Mcdata and Brocade fibre switches, various HBA’sby Emulex, Qlogic, and HBA’s by the manufacturing host of the computersystems being attached, HPUX (using LVM), Sun Solaris (using Veritas), IBMAIX platforms, Compaq Tru64 or OpenVMS, and W2K/WinNt on variousplatforms. Other products included were the Celerra File Server (a NASproduct), Clarion and Symmetrix by EMC and integrating it into WinNT, W2K,OpenVMS and Unix environments. Implementing in the customers environmentwould include preserving live data while migrating from existing storageplatforms to new ones. I would also perform post product training and how touse NAS in their environment including implementing quotas, security, etc..Software installs include EMC Control Center, ESN Manager (EMC),VolumeLogix (EMC), PowerPath and Connectrix Manager.
