    Mosaicx Nov 2020 - Jul 2024
I reported to the President, overseeing 150 employees, including 7 direct reports. I led the technology function spanning SaaS products, people & systems management, architecture/design, data & analytics, divisional infosec, development, testing, CI/CD, SRE, public cloud, legacy data centers, cloud cost optimization, technology strategy, and a $20M/yr budget.NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS DIGITAL TRANSFORMATIONTasked with modernizing Mosaicx services, migrating customers, and shutting down data centers to cut costs, I implemented SAFe to boost team throughput and invested in cloud training to ensure staff proficiency while retaining legacy knowledge. I chose Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for the new SaaS product, leading its re-engineering with modern languages and APIs to enhance data access and administration. Managing about 90 contractors, I handled on-boarding, budgeting, and milestones. I also led the migration timeline creation and review with the CEO, earning praise for clear reporting. Legacy data centers were shut down ahead of schedule and under budget, resulting in a modern cloud platform with significant cost savings, improved scalability, and higher customer satisfaction.PLATFORM RECOVERYFollowing a cyber attack, my goal was to restore legacy production services. I prioritized recovery workstreams, assembled the team, and set up clear communication cadences. Leading customer executive communications, I focused on restoring confidence and ensuring transparency. We restored most platforms within 2 days, reaching 100% a few days later, preserving critical data and earning recognition for leadership under pressure.TURNAROUNDTo expedite cloud migration for a lagging business unit, I assessed the situation, restructured the team, and revised the plan to meet critical deadlines. Engaging actively with customers, I ensured a smooth migration process. The program was completed in under 9 months, delivering a more resilient platform with 4x the previous capacity.
  • West Technology Group
Vp, Digital Transformation & Reliability Engineering
West Technology Group Nov 2018 - Nov 2020
Responsibilities: I reported to the CTO of West Corp running a small team of Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), Process Engineers and Cloud Architects. I led the company's cloud strategy and oversaw its implementation.NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTSCLOUD / OPERATIONS TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMIn order to prepare West’s business units for sale, all technology assets needed to be segmented to support a “clean” transfer of ownership. An application focused move to the cloud was the path selected for this segmentation. I was chosen to lead this change program based on my broad knowledge of West’s production environments and strong relationships with the teams that supported them. Through various consolidation initiatives, I was able to save $400k in the first quarter in the role, an important proof point, as cloud migrations are expensive in their early days.PUBLIC / PRIVATE CLOUD PLATFORMBuilt 21 VMWare Tanzu (PCF) foundations across AWS, GCP, Azure and physical data centers in the US, Europe and Asia. These foundations provided a location for West’s various business units to run their applications on their IaaS of choice - local to customers. This was a critical first step in the move to cloud, as it allowed my expert team to act as a safety net for technologists that were new to cloud work patterns and responsibilities.MAKING IT REPEATABLEEstablished West’s “path to cloud,” a template that teams followed to realize the time and cost savings expected from their application transformations. The “path” included: basic and intermediate cloud training, an understanding of non-functional requirements (NFRs), CI/CD pipeline examples, monitoring tooling, recommended team structures and operations expectations. Once teams demonstrated their adherence to the template, they were authorized to deploy their applications to production. Once in the cloud, teams on average realized a 20% increase in velocity.Success in this role resulted in my promotion to business unit CTO.
  • West Corporation
Vp, Production Platforms And Core Systems
    West Corporation Feb 2016 - Nov 2018
    Omaha, Ne, Us
Responsibilities: I reported to the SVP of Engineering and Operations leading a global team (16 teams operating in 10 countries across 4 continents) responsible for the operations of all production applications as well as global compute & storage infrastructure. I was accountable to internal stakeholders and external customers for production outcomes.NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTSTECHNOLOGY OPTIMIZATIONAfter a major production incident, it became clear that while applications were expected to be architected such that they could survive the loss of a core datacenter - this was not the reality for many, if not most, applications. I used this opportunity to campaign for an Enterprise-wide project that would address this shortcoming. The project was funded and I became its executive sponsor. I assigned leaders to drive application reviews, document the findings, create remediation plans and upon appropriate review, to execute the plans. Over the course of 18 months all application shortcomings were addressed, culminating in a company-wide outage simulation. The simulation was a success and allowed for a massive increase in work that could be accomplished in the core datacenters, as workloads could now be reliably moved away from maintenance activities. This outcome also yielded a significant reduction in mean time to recovery (MTTR) metrics across the board. COST REDUCTIONThe success of the project above led to a number of cost saving initiatives made possible by the ability to move processing as needed. I was able to direct platform consolidations and reductions that removed 3000+ servers and allowed for the closing of 3 data centers, saving millions annually. The success of this program demonstrated my ability to drive strategic change initiatives and deliver tangible results, leading to my appointment as VP of Digital Transformation and Reliability Engineering.

I managed all ITIL processes (change, incident, problem, etc) for the organization. NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS* Streamlined workflow and improved team efficiency 25%+ through standardizing processes and leading performance improvement initiatives.* Decreased low and high-impact incident volume by 30% and 65% respectively through analyzing and reducing recurring events, strategically addressing platform needs, and optimizing processes.* Consolidated production platforms from 12 to 2 data centers – delivering $4.5M in yearly savings and a much smaller fault domain.* Combined the InfoSec staff from 2 business units into a single cohesive team, reducing headcount while taking on responsibility for contractor management and business continuity planning.* Ensured customer requirements and compliance obligations were met including PCI, HIPAA, Sarbanes Oxley, SSAE16 and ISO 27002.* Built a team that others want to work for - no unintended employee turnover in 2 years.
