CurrentI have the tremendous opportunity to work with mission-driven professionals employing blind Virginians in manufacturing, retail, and services. Our $54 million in revenue comes mostly from our customers in either the federal or state governments, but we also serve local governments and the private sector. Chief Operating Officer
I finished my time at the Dept of Game and Inland Fisheries with fond memories and proud accomplishments including:• diversifying and raising operating revenue 5% from a $55 million base for this non-general fund agency with full support of customers, regulators, Administration, and Board• increasing the political relevance and direct customer base 192% from a base of 1.3 million with a new strategic plan that now includes the only growing customer demographic - wildlife watchers• partnering with DMV to improve customer service for 10,000 joint customers a year; project team members from both agencies won the prestigious Governor's Public Service Award for Customer Service each of the two years it has been presented• advocating for a privately-managed dependent bear cub-rearing facility that opened Dec 2013 at the Wildlife Center of Virginia and turned public antagonists into advocates of the agency• piloting and expanding a successful law enforcement K9 program with private funding from the Wildlife Foundation of Virginia• removing the largest hurdle to customer recruitment by developing a completely online hunter safety course managed by third-parties at no cost to the state• improving operational effectiveness despite an 8% vacancy rate due to a state-mandated hiring freeze from 2009-2013• acquiring the land and pushing ahead towards construction of a new headquarters building• building stronger processes for engaging the Board and staff in agency work and legislative action• creating a more trusting, respectful, and collaborative work environment I thank all of the talented professionals at DGIF, in state government, and with the mission-aligned nonprofits for their support in making these significant improvements for the wildlife, and all those who enjoy it, in Virginia. It is time for me to tackle the next opportunity.
President
We helped organizations double the time their employees had to think, innovate, and perform by showing how to easily get control of email, meetings, and information management.
Director, Hr Operations
I was a founding member of the Productivity and Knowledge Management Function at Capital One and later created a Customer Service and Escalation Team to respond to poor performance by an outsourced provider and to pave the way for smoother integrations of additional corporate acquisitions. I built the multi-location, multi-lingual team in weeks and our Team delivered in a big way with outstanding customer satisfaction results as we assisted employees in their "moments that mattered". I am very proud of the Team and the fast and sustained impact it had on the company.
Director, Productivity & Knowledge Management
I worked with a small team to develop a culture of knowledge capture, sharing, and reuse so that the important investments Capital One made in its people and equipment were leveraged broadly. We developed a Nielsen Award-winning intranet which engaged all employees and accelerated the way we worked.I personally co-developed a course called "TeamMeetings and TeamMail" to create a standard culture across the company on how to make our many meetings productive and email communication of higher quality. Our efforts were highlighted by NPR, BusinessWeek, and as a case study in a best-selling business book entitled "The Hamster Revolution".
Client Manager
I managed a team of internal relationship managers in the Production Services Department who served every customer-focused line of business by consulting on physical fulfillment options with credit cards, statements, letters, payment processing, etc.Of significant note was my leadership on the successful introduction of a bilingual statement for the Hispanic Line of Business and in-country payment processing for the Canadian Line of Business.
Navy Officer - Pilot
I held a number of exciting and rewarding jobs during my military career and am very proud of my service. My successful carer was cut short when I was medically retired. While this door closed, I am healthy now and have taken advantage of new opportunities to grow. Here are some highlights of a 14+ year career. As a helicopter pilot, I led aviation detachments on deployments to the Persian Gulf and in the Pacific Ocean. I was responsible for the flight operations and training of squadron aircrew, the quality of maintenance for 14 aircraft, and the well-being of sailors and their families during my flying days in San Diego, CA.I had the extreme honor of serving two Presidents as a White House Social Aide, four Secretaries of the Navy as Personal Aide and Cogressional Correspondence Director, one Chief of Naval Operations as Helicopter Training Officer, and one Chairman of the Joint Chiefs as a Logistics Project Officer during my service in Washington, DC.
White House Social Aide
What an honor this was to be chosen by the Navy to represent the Service at official White House events for the last year of President Bush's term and the first year of President Clinton's term. I joined Aides from the other services in assisting guests of the First Family at State Dinners, Olympic athlete receptions, the White House Correspondent's Dinner, Easter Egg rolls, and many more memorable events. This was an extra duty while I was assigned various posts at the Pentagon.
