The great thing about working for a small company is the opportunity to work in different areas of the company than what you're used to. I mainly perform sponsorship sales where I call and email exhibitors for various conferences and events around the United States. The goal is to offer them commercial space within our newscast CNTV creates for the show. Besides my sales role, I also assist our accountant with various tasks such as entering information into QuickBooks, reconciling our credit card statements, and helping with payroll by making sure employee hours are correct. Before this job, I had never had any experience in Accounting. By learning the very basics of QuickBooks, I've learned a new program that I never would have used had I not worked at CNTV. Being able to learn new skills at a company is very important to me which is why my time at CNTV has been incredibly valuable.

As an MT intern, I was able to see firsthand how a business is operated from the ground up. Everything from sales to customer service to marketing was covered during the internship. There was a heavy emphasis on sales which consisted of selling car protection packages to customers renting their vehicles. I continued learning how to interact with customers in a professional setting and making sure the customer service was excellent. Additionally, weekly marketing efforts were performed where we checked in with local businesses to see if there was a need for rental cars on an annual basis.

As a sales associate, I sold golf course memberships, scheduled tee times, and helped with tournaments. I mostly focused on the sales of golf course memberships which was offered when a customer came in to pay for a round of golf. I averaged 4-6 memberships per shift during peak season which was May and the beginning of June. It allowed me the opportunity to hone my customer service skills while fine tune my sales skills. Additionally, I helped organize and set up tournaments. Tournaments varied in size from smaller weekly tournaments to companies who put on a tournament once a year for all of their employees. Both kinds allowed me to meet many professionals in various fields who helped me decide on what I wanted to do as a career.

At RadioShack, I sold cell phones, set up cellular accounts, sold all types of consume electronics, and maintained store layout. This was my initial experience in a sales job. RadioShack has a very heavy focus on sales and they teach their employees how to sell. Cell phones was the most important item to sell so there was a lot of time spent in training learning about various phone companies and their cell phone plans.We also learned a lot about customer service and resolving customer issues. Many times as an employee I was in a situation where I had to resolve customer issues. Anything ranging from electronic malfunctions to billing issues were common customer complaints. RadioShack taught me how to fix these issues which in the end taught me a lot of valuable customer service skills.
