This year-long placement is taken as my penultimate year before graduation. The key goals of this placement were to learn technical skills and build a professional presence in industry.The majority of my placement was spent on a team called Retailer Delivery, providing business to business self-service web applications to automotive manufacturers and group dealers. Our key objective as a team was to automate business processes which historically Codeweavers had relied on support staff to undertake, like providing reports and changing templates. As a backend developer, it was my responsibility to write the application logic that happened on the server. In particular, creating web endpoints using ASP.NET for Showroom & Admin, the web applications which our clients use daily.A key deliverable I was responsible for during my placement was the migration of templates between a legacy database and a new database. This involved creating a migration service which modified non-relational templates into a relational database engine. Moving an estimated 19,250 templates (versioned).Codeweavers has exposed me to a Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment pipeline, with a strong focus on version control through deliverable, minimum marketable features.Aside from the solely technical, Codeweavers encourages developers to lead daily stand-ups and retrospectives. This has been a great opportunity to develop my interpersonal skills, at times hosting daily stand-ups and discussions for 20+ people.
