About Matt Prowse

Delivering memorable customer experiences has been at the cornerstone of my career since its inception. Fuelled by the need to wear Billabong, & parents only willing to purchase from K-Mart ; I did what any 13 year old would do – begged my folks for more money. They weren’t forthcoming, however offered: “If you pay the difference, you can have your Billabong shirt.” So I started my career... riding my pushy every afternoon, milk crate tied to the front weighed down with afternoon editions of the Telly, I was tasked with selling newspapers throughout the local industrial estates. I made 10%, & considering each paper retailed for $0.60 I quickly learnt the intrinsic relationship between exceptional customer service & tips. Rain, hail (yes – it did once) or shine those papers were delivered with a signature Prowse grin & a “how’s ya day been Jenny?”, all in the hope I would be flung a piece of gold & told “keep the change”. I was the first paperboy in our area to hand-write Christmas cards to my regular clientele the week before holidays. Where the other paperboys saw a waste of $40 & 2 hours missed surf time, I saw a gesture that would be remembered (and hopefully talked about). Still to this day the memory of all of those cards of thanks and gifts from my customers the following afternoon brings a warm smile to my face. That day the power of delivering ‘surprise & delight’ customer experiences was born inside me, & it has flourished ever since! My career has been characterised by designing & implementing customer experiences that are on-brand and importantly...engage in the moment, & remain memorable long after. Being customer focussed is much more than a career for me, it’s a passion.These days my focus is on building high functioning CX teams that live and breathe these service principles. Putting the customer at the heart of decision making through customer strategy, understanding (ie journeys, personas), voice of customer programs, human centred design, governance and building customer centric cultures.
