Matt is a dedicated, creative, strategic-thinking ancillary and student services professional who possesses superior communication skills, a commitment to a vibrant student experience, the ability to navigate and drive meaningful change, a commitment to professional development / lifelong learning. He has extensive demonstrable experience delivering results in progressively more senior roles at multiple post-secondary institutions in Atlantic Canada. Born and raised in Halifax, he moved to Fredericton to attend grad school at The University of New Brunswick and remained to work at UNB for a number of years. Matt currently lives in Halifax, NS and works as the Director, Housing & Conference Services at Saint Mary's University. Creatively, his sixth full length poetry collection "Tangled & Cleft" was released by Gaspereau Press in 2021. Previous collections include "Some Nights It's Entertainment; Some Other Nights Just Work" (Gaspereau, 2016), "Against the Hard Angle" (ECW, 2010), "no cage contains a stare that well" (ECW, 2005), "A Ruckus of Awkward Stacking" (Insomniac, 2000), which was nominated for the Gerald Lampert Memorial and ReLit awards, and "how we play at it: a list" (ECW, 2002), as well as a limited edition chapbooks from Gaspereau Press, Frog Hollow Press, Greenboathouse Press. His poems have won numerous awards including the Petra Kenney Poetry Prize, Grain Magazine’s Prose Poem Award, and The Malahat Review Long Poem Prize. He has also received the NB Foundation for the Arts Emerging Artist of the Year Award. His work has also appeared in numerous anthologies and been featured in the HRM’s Art in Public Places initiative. Matt has served as a poetry editor at The Fiddlehead, as a mentor in the WFNS’s Mentorship Program, and been involved with Writers in the Schools programs in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Writers Federation of Nova Scotia.Matt was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022 for his service as President of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia, including during COVID pandemic, when he helped the organization to adapt by pivoting online, and in so doing, allowed the WFNS to flourish and expand service to writers during an unprecedented time of change.Robinson holds a BA and a BSc from SMU, a BEd from MSVU, and an MA from UNB. He is a graduate of Halifax’s J. L.
