Systems Architect
Los Gatos, Ca, Us
Served as the Systems Architect for Qwikster's Datacenter-based-services - this includes both Operations and Corporate infrastructures from a Systems, Networking and Software Configuration perspective.I’ve designed and implemented all new key infrastructure components to support the new business unit. Configuration management throughout the datacenter using Puppet, a new internal private cloud hosted on Xen using CloudStack and RightScale for management, and all new development and software distribution tools. In addition to the software and virtualization infrastructure, I lead a complete redesign in how Qwikster (the Netflix DVD Division) looked at storage in the datacenter. Migrated from high end IBM SANs to more general purpose NetApp SAN, NAS and iSCSI systems leading to millions in savings, as well as greater flexibility in the infrastructure.(October 2010 -> June 2011: Senior Systems Engineer)Working within the IT Operations team at Netflix, I was responsible for several significant changes to the systems management infrastructure in the two primary Datacenters as well as systems that run within external clouds (AWS, Rackspace). I lead a number of key infrastructure projects including internal cloud (with Eucalyptus and Cloud.com) implementations, implementing internal software build systems for custom packages, datacenter bare-metal kickstart system for new systems deployment as well as deployment tools and images for external Cloud providers. Most notably, I was the primary architect of our Puppet management framework. This framework now allows for new systems to be installed in minutes, and fully configured with a well documented and implemented class structure. At last count, this system was managing over 1200 Linux servers within the Netflix Datacenter Environment.
