Twenty years of strategic comms and account experience across industries, disciplines and countries. I was never a PR guy, and I’m not an advertising guy. I want to be ‘the knowledge guy’ because I found out a long time ago that I’m at my best when I have a complete overview of all parts of the challenge ahead. The word ‘strategy’ is used and abused a lot in communications, so I prefer to think of it in simpler terms by ensuring communication sticks to some basic principles (none of which are rocket science, but all of which get ignored too often):• Never publish written content that you wouldn’t happily say out loud, and never say something out loud you wouldn’t happily put your logo next to in print• Credibility and truth go hand in hand – one shouldn’t be present when the other is absent• When your audience isn’t listening, it’s because you’re saying something they don’t care aboutIf we can meet these stipulations and create clear, honest and relevant communications for our clients, then I believe we’ll go a long way to helping them achieve their strategic communication goals.
