I am a Singapore based entrepreneur and online publisher. I call myself an accidental entrepreneur because when I co-founded Sassy in 2009 it started out as a hobby. 15 years later this hobby has grown to include 2 brands (Sassy and Sassy Mama) across multiple locations (Hong Kong and Singapore) with 25 employees. I moved to Hong Kong in 2008 from the United States as a “trailing spouse”. I am originally from Philadelphia and I was living and working in New York City before moving to Hong Kong. My previous work experience has a strong background in data analysis and this skill has been useful when operating a growing digital media company. With this skill in hand, a new hobby blogging about the coolest places in town and the financial crisis of 2008 closing doors to corporate job opportunities, a small company was born in 2009. Learning on the job became an everyday phrase back in the early days of Sassy. Because of that, I am a believer that you don’t have to know it all but instead you need to surround yourself with those who can teach you or do better than you. I am passionate about speaking on the following topics because I have personally experienced each and have my own success stories to tell.• How to grow a brand organically with limited start-up funds• How to learn new skills required in your industry (*)• How to expand into new markets and make them profitable within year 1• How to put team members in the right roles (even if that role is yours)• How to do brand extensions and stay relevant(*) There was a day when I had to google “What is a Media Kit?” when an advertiser asked us for Sassy’s Media Kit in 2009. Today, that is our main tool for marketing our brand to advertisers and has become an everyday phrase in the Sassy Media Group office.
