Based on her years of nursing experience, Maureen identified significant issues in the provision of high quality, consistent clinical nursing care in rural and remote areas of northern Australia. With many remote communities struggling to attract and retain qualified and experienced clinical nurses, aged care facilities were experiencing issues meeting compliance requirements and providing high quality, tailored clinical care for residents.Maureen has adopted a two pronged approach to remedying this situation. On the one hand, Maureen has assembled a team of highly trained and experienced clinical nurses for short term placements in remotely located facilities to implement quality systems and processes to ensure that the care being provided is appropriate and medically sound.To provide ongoing, longer term assistance, Maureen has created Clinical Champion, a software application which enables clinical nurses in Cairns to view resident information and liaise with onsite care staff to create care plans based on the care data collected in the preceding week. This enables carers to manage resident care with confidence and in a culturally appropriate manner.
