I perform experiments at the bench as well as manage the daily function of the laboratory. The lab works on tracking metabolic pathways that lead to diseases like cancer, obesity, eye diseases, and neuropathy, using tracer molecules and advanced mass spectroscopy techniques. Moving forward the research will focus on elucidating how metabolism contributes to both health and disease.I am skilled in light, fluorescent, and confocal microscopy, histology and immunohistochemistry, murine IP and tail vein injection, murine organ dissection and processing, murine lung instillation, cryostat and vibratome tissue sectioning, IVIS/BLI imaging, microdissection, microinjection, cell culture, PCR and RT PCR, ELISA, and isolating and analyzing RNA and DNA. I have experience in writing papers and abstracts, generating figures, and preparing and presenting scientific posters. I am adept with Word, Photoshop, Excel, PowerPoint, and Acrobat. I am knowledgeable in managing a laboratory, including inventorying supplies, ordering, tracking purchases, equipment maintenance, generating weekly laboratory research summaries, editing animal protocols, and hazardous waste collection and disposal.
