In 1996 she left journalism to become an Executive Editor at Hyperion, the adult book division of the Walt Disney Company. After five years, she jumped to HarperCollins where she helped spearhead the HarperEntertainment imprint before co-launching the company’s Global Creative Development Group in 2007, working closely with Hollywood studios and talent agencies to develop worldwide book and multi-media opportunities. In 2008, O'Brien was a launching editor of the social network website wowOwow.com (for women of achievement) -- co-founded with Joni Evans, Leslie Stahl, Liz Smith, Candice Bergen, Peggy Noonan, Marlo Thomas, Lily Tomlin, Mary Wells, Whoopi Goldberg, and Joan Juliet Buck. O’Brien is now a freelance book editor, ghostwriter, and publishing consultant with a long roster of high profile clients.
