Conducted Spotted owl surveys for both day time monitoring and nocturnal point calling while following protocol guidelines for USFWS and for MRC timber company. Collected data using digital recorder. Report survey results nightly. Navigate mountain roads via truck and ATV. Operated a chainsaw to clear roads. Hike steep off trail terrain into owl habitat. Duties were conducted with little supervision and on a solo basis. Conducted time sensitive Marbled murrelet surveys at pre-dawn hours.

• Aided in deer capture by clover traps as well as free rang darting. Processed deer collecting samples of ectoparacites, blood, hair, body condition and individual measurements. Organized samples and recorded data. Assessed level of hair loss of deer using a system developed by CDFW. Organized all collected data in excel. Became proficient in radio telemetry while monitoring weekly locations of over 80 deer. Learned deer behavior and habitat use in order to track movements. Assessed deer mortality sites for signs of depredation as well set camera traps on carcass to determine species involved. Spent extended shifts of 10 days in tents at field camp in all weather conditions.

Sequoia National Park

Worked on spotted owl demography project with Park team. Hiked long distances in sometimes-remote locations for up to 12 miles usually off trial. Aided in noose-pole capturing, banding, drawing of blood, weighing and taking measurements of owls in the field all while taking care not to harm the animal. Conducted solo night surveys. Obtained a government drivers license and was required to drive off road on rugged mountain terrain.
