Director Of Product Management
Product Manager
Product Manager
At Fleetio, I was in charge of all things related to fleet maintenance. I worked with a team of engineers and designers to solve real customer problems related to fleet maintenance.
Co-Founder
Pallim was an online marketplace for mobile mechanics. Customers could request a car service quote and then select one of our mechanics to perform the service in their driveway. I was responsible for all areas of running the business from development of our apps to marketing our services to customers. While Pallim ultimately wasn't successful, it was a valuable learning experience and laid the groundwork for what I do today. I'm excited to take my second stab at entrepreneurship in the future.
Engineering Analyst
Engineering Intern
I worked as an Engineering Intern at Structural Integrity Associates (SI) during the summer of 2016. My main work was developing real time damage accumulation modules for SI’s PlantTrack software. I also worked with the analytical group analyzing high energy piping stress. I gained exposure to ABAQUS finite element analysis software as well as a great deal of SI’s proprietary analysis software. My proudest accomplishment was completion of a graphical user interface plug-in for ABAQUS to automate repetitive analysis preparation. This has increased SI efficiency as well as reduced errors through analysis standardization. I enjoyed the work as it was challenging and exposed me to new areas of the energy industry.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
During the final year of my Master’s at the University of Tennessee, I received a graduate teaching assistantship instructing freshman students in the use of Excel and MATLAB. The job was challenging and at one point I was responsible for teaching over 200 different students. Even with the difficulties, I found that I really enjoyed the work and it cemented my interest in computer use for engineering. My biggest obstacle during teaching was developing new ways to explain concepts that had become common sense to me. I found that metaphors to real life situations are the most helpful. However, there is no one size fits all way to teach and each student still required different help for different difficulties.I also helped extend class test questions by providing problems that I had encountered in my experience. This doubled the amount of possible test problems reducing cheating and also challenging the students.
Graduate Research Assistant
In my first year of graduate school at The University of Tennessee, I accepted a department fellowship to pursue a PhD in mechanical engineering. For a year, I worked on producing a two-dimensional nanomaterial graphene and implementing it into Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries. The work was highly interdisciplinary and required knowledge of materials science, chemistry, and mechanical engineering. While I enjoyed the instructional part of my advanced degree, the research was not my primary interest and I switched to pursue a non-thesis master’s degree.
