Data systems included our membership management system, a custom instance of NGP VAN (a MyVoter and MyCampaign hybrid), the Catalist M and QTools, QuickBase for custom field reporting systems, NationalField (eventually acquired by NGP VAN), Salsa, MobileCommons, and Action Network. My responsibilities included devising business rules and integration systems, managing data systems vendors’ services from RFP to implementation to termination of contracts; advising and assisting implementation of research and polling projects; handling vendor relationships for data operations development, analytics products, field reporting systems and member communications, list matching, data hygiene, and report production. I managed all data and technical aspects of Working America’s in-house phone center from selection of the dialer system and network support through basic training for call staff. I hired and supervised a small team of IT and data support staff. In addition to providing reports, counts and other descriptive statistics on all facets of the organization, I worked with researchers to translate study designs (randomized, controlled studies of our field work) into operational plans. This involved close collaboration between the researchers, our voter file vendor, and our field, political and data teams. I oversaw data logistics for field implementation including maintaining integrity of control contacts, provided regular (often daily) results for analysts, and managed multi-stakeholder, multi-vendor challenges to field implementation. I assessed, provided strategic advice and used analytical models, implementing custom models we’d worked with vendors to build. I worked with polling vendors, and provided contact data necessary to conduct research. Collaborating with our field team, I lead the evolution of our field data operation from handwritten paper sheets to 3G-enabled iPads. Show less
