I am accountable for architectural design, development, implementation and support within the department. This includes expanding the MPLS backbone with OSPF supporting it. Redundancies with BGP and BFD are also built for fault tolerance. I ensure the integrity of high availability network infrastructure to provide maximum performance of both our internal network and customer networks. I define and design network facilities utilizing standard engineering concepts of efficiency, redundancy, scalability, and security. Our knowledge base was also founded by me and I have created most of the content that defines our delivery and standards. I mentor junior engineers and as the subject matter expert of the network I am at the top tier of escalation within the department.

I had all the same responsibilities of a Network Engineer I, but now at a higher level. Network audits, bandwidth forecasting, hardware refreshing, and software licensing were tasks I was in charge of. More complicated scopes of work were assigned to me due to my stellar history of successful projects. My comprehensive understanding of telecommunications operations and functions allowed me to participate in larger projects and I was counted on to complete unique engineering tasks on time and within budget. This included configuration and implementation of large distribution routers with intricate CoS requirements supporting multiple customer VRFs.

As an implementation/network engineer I was responsible for the installation, support, and management of network technologies. My primary role was to interpret network designs and then build those networks according to those designs. I personally configured Juniper/Cisco routers and switches, Palo Alto/Juniper firewalls, Allot packet shapers, and Riverbed/Cisco accelerators. After configuration I would work with field engineers to physically install said equipment. During and after installation I identified, diagnosed, and resolved network problems if any arose. Other duties included writing up accurate technical documentation, monitoring network performance, assisting with project scope development, and ensuring that service level agreements were met.

It was my charge to enforce the standards that made the network operate as intended. I maintained those standards and created new ones as deemed by the needs of network architects and implementation engineers. I analyzed the work done by each participant in a project and verified it entirely. My knowledge of both Juniper and Cisco equipment paired with layer 2 and 3 protocols allowed me to navigate easily and confirm if the work performed met our standards or not. I worked on routers, switches, firewalls, packet shapers, accelerators, and servers. I examined network diagrams and confirmed that documentation fully displayed all network details. I corroborated daily with my peers regarding their project work to support their progress. In addition to these duties I also maintained and modified Junos Space if necessary. I built new or altered existing templates in that management platform to support our standards. I administered this to simplify and automate the management of Juniper’s switching, routing, and security devices.

I assisted in the support of all our customers with both their hardware and software. I would troubleshoot user issues in both Windows and Apple operating systems. I was responsible for the maintenance and configuration of IP phones, printers, faxes, computers, servers, switches, routers, firewalls, and packet shapers. I maintained user profiles in both Active and Open Directory and ensured data backup/recovery. I provided remote and onsite support as needed. I observed data usage and verified the security of the data end to end. As the frontline of the department it was role to address both incoming calls and emails and respond to them accordingly. I worked in a team environment, but I was also able to complete individual tasks and projects.

As a Sr. Network Control Specialist (network administrator) I oversaw the day-to-day operations of networks including hardware/software support and special projects. I interpreted designs and implemented data connectivity for the AT&T WAN. I assisted in coordinating special projects including installation, maintenance, and problem solving. I was responsible for providing network and remote connectivity support, which included maintaining user documentation, support logs, and other related information. I also configured and administered network hardware. I analyzed and troubleshot network issues along with tracking the nature and resolution of those problems. It was also my responsibility to monitor data usage and to ensure the security of the data in its entirety. I coordinated and consulted with vendors and clients for product services and recommend solutions based on the needs for the customer. I was the frontline of the department and was one of the first interactions that a customer had.

As a customer service representative my responsibilities varied from educating the public about our services to investigating and solving all customer problems. It was my duty to be an expert in Alascom services that included local phone, long distance, and WiMax internet. I helped troubleshoot with customers in all Windows and Mac operating systems. Troubleshooting included but was not limited to looking up IP addresses, checking TCP/IP settings, pinging servers, and checking equipment connections.
