I am the Group Head of Strategy and Sustainability at Britain’s largest port owner and operator, Associated British Ports (ABP), whose ports handle annual trade worth £157bn. Reporting to the CEO and interacting regularly with shareholders, I am responsible for developing and executing value creation strategies for our portfolio of 21 ports, seeking to maximise their role in enabling the UK’s green energy transition, whilst also Keeping Britain Trading.As part of ABP's new strategy that we launched in June 2024, I am setting up a new capability to partner with high potential start-ups in key energy transition sectors (including: floating offshore wind, hydrogen, low carbon fuels, CCS, energy storage). As part of this, we have launched the Energy Ventures Accelerator (supported by Plug and Play) to identify the best and brightest from around the world who want to make an impact on the decarbonisation of heavy industry, power generation and shipping.I also lead the development and ongoing delivery of ABP’s ambitious sustainability strategy, Ready for Tomorrow – a £2bn roadmap to decarbonise our own operations by 2040 and invest in the infrastructure required to enable the net zero transition in key industrial hubs like the Humber, South Wales and Southampton. Ready for Tomorrow goes far beyond GHG emissions though; it outlines a holistic climate and nature focus, including Air Quality, Biodiversity, Waste and Water.
