A wise man once said, “the purpose of life is to be happy”. But how can you be happy when you are trapped and don’t have options? When I left the Navy in 2021, I had less than $5,000 in my savings, over $20,000 in credit card debt, and two mortgages. The year prior, I left an abusive relationship after my ex stole $35,000 from me. I was suffering from financial anxiety, suicidal ideations, and spiraled into depression. My confidence and my self-worth were at an all-time low. I was trapped. In my desperation, I took the first job opportunity offered to me which meant I was taking a 30k per year pay cut from my previous position. I saw no other option.
