My name is Maya Cherry, and I am a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, pursuing a bachelor of science degree in Computer Science and Gender and Women's Studies. I am currently interested in securing an internship for the summer of 2020. Two summers ago, I interned in the Chicago office of 8th Light, a custom software development service. Through my internship, I gained additional understanding of the importance of writing durable, well-tested code that is easily able to expand and adapt. I also obtained experience in working with a team on a legacy code base of scale written in rails, a language I was not previously familiar with. This past summer, I worked as an Intern for a large corporation based in Reston, VA called Leidos. The team that I worked with was contracted to make software for the Department of Defense. Through this experience, I received my first exposure to working with a team on one long term project full time and reporting progress back to a larger team.On campus, I work as a peer mentor for the Women in Science and Engineering Living Learning Community, which works to support young women entering the STEM field and am just beginning a large and exciting personal project. To learn more about my current projects, check out my Blog and Github!
