He has mediated more than 2,000 private and public disputes. His areas of expertise include administrative, civil, code of conduct / disciplinary matters, contract, insurance (including personal injury and Statutory Accident Benefits matters), landlord/tenant, and workplace disputes. Michael serves as the Integrity Commissioner for Niagara Region, the City of St. Catharines, the Town of Grimsby, and various municipalities in the Almaguin Highlands region, as well as for the Durham District School Board and Toronto District School Board. He is an investigator for the ADR Chambers Ombuds Office for banking and municipal matters, and is an experienced workplace investigator. Michael has investigated and delivered reports on dozens of disputes involving discrimination, harassment, and bullying complaints. He is also a workplace restoration facilitator, assisting workplaces to overcome challenging interpersonal and structural workplace conflicts through alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes. In addition to having developed and taught ADR courses at Durham College, Michael co-founded Campus Mediation Services, which provides a dispute resolution service for the Durham College and (then-named UOIT, now Ontario Tech University) campus community. He is a co-author of the post-secondary textbook “Choices in Approaching Conflict” which was first published by Emond in 2010, with a second edition published in 2019.
