Senior Curriculum Leader - Humanities

Parkside School - Secondary

Bradford, United Kingdom

My role was Senior Curriculum Leader of Humanities. It is a large faculty, respected by colleagues and popular with students. In the time that I was at Parkside my main achievements were to instill togetherness within the faculty where staff collaborated frequently and supported each other to achieve personal and faculty goals. I lead by example and was a visible leader. I built positive, long lasting relationships with all staff through support and, where required, assertiveness. I initiated three whole school projects during my time at Parkside School. The first was to raise the profile of Moodle as a learning tool. This strategy demonstrated Moodle as a tool which can raise student attainment. Usage of Moodle increased by 500%. Secondly, I devised a social media strategy for the Transition of primary students to Parkside which made use of Twitter and Parkside's Moodle site. Thirdly, I completed a project called the ‘Creative Classroom’ on Moodle with our resident Drama expert from C&T which uses a random selector to select a style of drama, such as Freeze Frames, for students to demonstrate their learning. I am motivated by raising and maintaining standards and as such I have developed my skills in strategic leadership and the ability to empower colleagues to take ownership of strategies devised to raise standards. I use my experience and social media to remain at the cutting edge of teaching and learning and I am a regular contributor to 'TES Connect' where my resources have been viewed over 71,000 times. Having been a participant of the NCSL (National College for School Leadership) Tomorrow’s Heads programme (UK Government funded), I have been able to identify my areas of strength and weakness in terms of emotional intelligence and competencies. I am working hard to develop my weaknesses whilst advancing my strengths.
