I am a software development manager leading three teams within the Rackspace Email organization. I nicknamed our overall team APEX, standing for Apps and Experiences.My teams are the Customer Experience (CE) team of 5-6 reports, the Applications and APIs (Apps) team of 6 reports, and the Support team of 1 report.The CE team focuses on front-end applications and our administrative Control Panel interface. Our technology stack includes React 16 Javascript and C# .Net backing APIs.The Apps team focuses on our Webmail application suite and all internal provisioning systems. The Webmail and application suite are PHP with custom Javascript, and our supporting Provisioning Gateway is Python 2.7/3.6.The Support team is focused on custom internal tools that allow our customer support representatives to track tickets and times My teams use a continuous flow development process with weekly planning and retrospectives. I've found these to be the best to minimize overhead while still having a quick turnaround on team process improvement.I have strong experience communicating project updates weekly to my peer manager group and upwards to my managers. Each week I provide a detailed system quality report using statistics and data from the previous week, highlighting delays and plans on how to keep projects on-schedule.I have extensive experience working with our Product and Technical Product Managers to plan project deliverables and timelines, and customer communications around new or updated features.As manager, I am expected to be the stack owner and responsible for 24/7 operation of my services. I have hands-on experience with all of my systems and plan with the team each change being deployed.The career development of my direct reports is very important to me. I help set a 1-5 year career plan for each report, and provide new opportunities for each one to learn new capabilities by utilizing a personal development time system I've set up.
