In my quest to understand why I had missed prominent themes in the Bible regarding compassion, justice and God's heart for the poor, I read many popular authors who expressed angst over the same issue in the North American church at large...however none of them addressed the "why" beyond the condemnation of materialism and apathy. I finally ran across a few folks who were addressing the core issues beneath the surface, dealing with worldview deficits, a misunderstanding of the comprehensive nature of the Gospel message, and the Kingdom of God. I had the opportunity to codify this information in a short chapter for another author's book, which is attached here for free download if you're interested.
