My final year project was an occupancy detection system written using Python as the backend and Java Spring Boot as persistence, using Bluetooth Low Energy to determine if a person occupied a room and how long they stayed there. Data useful to the user was provided through a React Native mobile application.

I joined Tyrrell Systems to gain valuable industry software and embedded experience, allowing me the chance to develop my enterprise knowledge, working alongside professionals who were at the heart of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Building Management Systems (BMS) space. I was tasked with integrating Sage, a financing software, with QuickBooks Time, a timesheet time-tracking web application. I successfully linked the applications using the Sage SDK and QuickBooks Time API, developed in C Sharp as a Windows Service that automatically synced the Timesheets with Sage to calculate payroll. This was done with the support of supervisors, as well as taking feedback from the financing team. Their workflow was improved as they did not need to manually enter timesheet hours in future. I also worked on programmable lights, sensors and absence detection in ARUP's new Edinburgh office buildings using the DALI protocol, and briefly worked on a server downtime alerting software with MQTT & Prometheus, custom built using alerts in the Niagara framework.
