About Kelly Mccabe
I am a public health leader who strategically bridges the gap between theory and practice. I have 20+ years of experience in advancing health equity strategies in a variety of settings: field settings in developing countries, state and local governmental health departments, academic institutions, and currently the community-engaged research arm of Illinois' largest private safety-net hospital. I am an analytical and skilled epidemiologist, director, and research investigator who successfully manages teams, drives research priorities, and consistently delivers results on time and within budget. Accomplishments:- Directing a team of CHWs in hospital system integration, screening 3,000+ patients for SDoH and demonstrating a reduction in readmission rates.- An overhaul of the research aims for a federally funded lead hazard prevention research study, improving enrollment 10-fold.- Securing funding for Institute’s first-ever initiative strategically utilizing predictive analytics paired with CHW insights on over 1,000 high-risk patients. - Coordinating a community-based breast, cervical, and colorectal health research program, educating 30,000+ community members and navigating 6,000+ to preventative cancer screenings and HPV vaccinations. What sets me apart:I love to solve puzzles and I’m an agile thinker in a variety of settings – from a resource-limited subsistence farming community with no running water to one of the largest medical schools in a resource-rich country. I have a proven ability to creatively “fix” research studies, and I thrive on taking action. I have braided my natural curiosity, desire to help others, and belief in meaningful work into a career I am proud of.
