I opened my boutique personal consulting firm “McGing Advisory & Actuarial” over a decade ago. Our firm, based in Melbourne, has a primary focus on the superannuation, life insurance and wealth management markets - including retirement incomes and friendly societies. We offer consulting service to directors, senior executives and their teams, to assist in resolution of business issues including financial records, products, processes and operational improvements including guidance through regulatory change. We also team up with other trusted professionals according to the sector and issues involved.

I completed 18 months as Chair of the Board of Siena College Ltd, a not-for-profit Catholic secondary school in the Dominican tradition. I was a Director on the Board for 11 years in total including as: (a) Inaugural Chair of the Risk Management Committee having established and chaired its precursor the Risk Management Working Group. (b) Chair of the Finance Committee (c) Company Secretary.

In September 2014, I was appointed as Head of Actuarial Systems for TAL on a part time basis. TAL had grown rapidly to become Australia’s largest life insurer, and thus needed a mix of actuarial, systems/IT, life insurance and business skills to ensure optimal short and long model projection as well as reporting capabilities going forward – which I was able to provide. I established, built and led the Actuarial Systems area, working closely with the CFO, Chief Actuary and many others across Finance. The positive company culture and collaborative environment led to my staying over 2 years, while substantially increasing TAL’s financial forecasting capability.

I was Chair of its Reputation and Participation Subcommittee and co-ordinate a team of volunteers to communicate the Institute's messages on actuaries' risk management capabilities within and external to the profession. The committee promotes and co-ordinates the role of actuaries in enterprise risk management, particularly beyond the traditional insurance actuarial domains. I represented the RMPC on the Organising Committee for the Actuaries Institute's Financial Services Forum in 2012 and again for the 2014 Forum.

I was a Partner at Ernst & Young in their Financial Services Office and Advisory Practice for two years following the merging of my actuarial consulting business Askit Consulting into Ernst & Young in July 2008. I also led the Melbourne Actuarial Services team over that period.

I founded Askit Consulting (Askit) in 1999 and built it up to be a mid size actuarial consultancy. Building a business from scratch was challenging, exciting, and overall a wonderfully enriching experience in applying my professional and personal skills. Strategy, thinking, enterprise risk management, business development, client relationship and people management were all practiced as much as my actuarial skills. Askit successfully bridged the gap between the business needs of its financial services company clients and the operations of their systems, processes and data. While at Askit, I provided assistance on areas including unit pricing, crediting rates, product rationalisation, data integrity and analysis, administration system processes and efficiencies as well as problem identification and resolution.

I worked at what was then Trowbridge Consulting, specialising in life insurance, superannuation, wealth management, mergers and acquisitions, experience investigations, and liability valuations. I also worked on National Mutual and Colonial Mutual demutualisations. I successfully delivered customised and specialist actuarial projection software.
