Department Of Pediatrics

Manages a wide variety of business services for the Department of Pediatrics. Primary activities include: strategic planning, administrative restructuring and process improvement, human resource database design and maintenance, employee relations, salary administration, staff/faculty hires, retentions and terminations, financial cost centering and account reconciliation, detailed and dynamic financial reporting, and internal auditing to ensure all university, healthcare system, state, and federal regulations are followed.

Provided ongoing revenue monitoring and analysis of data from internal and external sources to identify reimbursement trends; assessed accuracy of billing; recommended and facilitated opportunities for process improvement; participated in departmental planning and development processes; advised and educated division administrators in business processes.

Managed clinical revenue and sponsored research accounting, human resource activity, supervised administrative staff and facility management in addition to monitoring of clinical trials. Thorough utilization of financial, research, and human resource software and SOM processes and procedures. Monitored and analyzed the division's clinical documentation and coding processes in order to improve the financial value of physicians providing excellent clinical care.

Day to day management of the PreMIS project, a medical informatics project with the NC State Office of Emergency Medical Services. Direction involved the creation and maintenance of timelines for IT development including: software applications, database and data warehouse structures, data translation utilities, and websites. Leadership of the projects also included the development of training materials for EMS professionals, creation of data dictionary, internal utility databases and communication with the NC EMS community and its leaders. This role also entailed the supervision of project personnel (IT and administrative) as well as the management of financial resources in accordance with federal, state and university guidelines.

Managed the day-to-day functions of Emergency Medicine's clinical/academic office: supervised department staff; approved financial transactions; cooperated with physician researchers in project planning and contract/grant proposal development. With the Department Administrator, managed all department finances; served as liaison with UNC Hospitals Medical Staff Services and Physicians & Associates in the organization of clinical staff.

Advanced quality of life, coping and spirituality research with heart and lung transplant patients by recruiting subjects, gathering and analyzing data, as well as conducting psychological interviews in clinical environments. Developed an extensive subject-tracking referential database in MS Access and assisted with financial oversight of the project accounts and supervision of study personnel.

Participated actively in the development of the "Life Readiness Program" a grant proposal with dialysis patients ultimately funded by Amgen, Inc. Edited the proposal and its budget, performed preliminary research, and guided the proposal through appropriate university protocols. Once funded, executed management project. Performed administrative duties of the project including grant renewal procedures, fiscal management, and the coordination of study personnel. Wrote portions of grant proposals, organized data, contributed scholarly concepts to the preparation, implementation and evaluation of research activities and coordinated renal health care worker focus groups.
