I was responsible for synthesizing an azide sugar as an alkyne-terminated peptide chain for the optimization of a click chemistry reaction. Products were then digested using Trypsin, cleaned using solid phase extraction and then analyzed using mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS).After optimizing the reaction, the chemistry was then used to react the alkyne-terminated peptide with a glycoprotein modified to have the azide functionality.

I dissected adult rats and collected sensory neurons (dorsal root ganglia) for culture. Cultures were exposed to varying concentrations of insulin and glucose for the study of diabetic neuropathy. Using an extracellular flux analyzer, I studied the effects of insulin and glucose on mitochondrial function of my cultured sensory neurons, determining the dysfunction caused by diabetes.Additionally, I studied of effects of insulin and glucose on signalling pathways using Western Blots. Blots were semi-quantified using either chemiluminescent or X-ray imaging. All of my data was normalized from protein assay results and statistically analyzed using GraphPad and Microsoft Excel.

I adapted an ISO protocol for the determination of chlorophyll in bulk canola seeds for the determination of chlorophyll in individual seeds. I used either a UV-Vis spectrophotometer or a fluorometer to quantify the concentration of chlorophyll. I performed statistical analysis using SAS Enterprise to determine accuracy and precision of the method adapted for single seed analysis compared to several traditional bulk analysis methods.
