I lead a talented team of over 100 engineers that are responsible for Nautilus' digital platform. This includes all electronics for motors, sensors and fitness consoles; firmware that controls the equipment and communicates with applications; Android OS customizations and certifications; and the apps that bring the consoles to life or connect to them over Bluetooth. The team includes internal, contract and offshore resources that span the entire globe to give the correct mix of talent and cost structure allowing for 24-hour development. We employ an Agile development environment with a customer first mindset. This allows for faster release cycles and places the customer's experience and feedback as the basis for new features and the direction for all improvements.

Lead a dedicated team of electrical engineers who design cutting edge consoles for our premier fitness equipment. My group is responsible for both hardware and software design and is currently expanding into mobile applications for iOS and Android.

Managed various projects designing electronics and software for displays, joysticks and engine control modules for mobile machines.

Managed $40M technology budget across 5 countries and 9 sites and 5 countries. Oversaw new program funding, capitalization plans, project budget tracking and new product development roll-up reporting. Led small focused engineering team which supported Reflective Memory (RFM) product line and legacy products. • Through process improvements, tool enhancements and rigor, changed a consistently overspending organization into a controlled and efficient team that successfully hit a 97% average of operating plan the last 5 quarters. Results were achieved within the first 3 months of taking over the role.• Reduced operating costs by $762k and $172k in consecutive quarters to meet increasingly difficult business environment without delaying critical product introductions and recovered $500k in omitted capitalization.• Architected next generation of RFM products that increased performance by 1200%, decreased latency by 10 times and increased robustness though redundant links.• Within 9 months, released RFM analyzer hardware, driver and graphical interface on Linux and Windows, providing customers with a much needed network analysis tool and filling a product line gap.• Architected next generation of RFM products that increased performance by 1200%, decreased latency by 10 times and increased robustness though redundant links.• Within 6 weeks, researched, defined and created implementation plan for OPC-UA, an automation communication standard, into current controller product line increasing interoperability between products.

Led 15 design engineers in all aspects of product life cycle from market analysis, product design and released product support. Both hardware and software disciplines were required to bring products to market. The interdependencies of these two skills required careful managing for successful product launch. • Managed over 500 existing products while maintaining focus on three main lines that drove upwards of $20M dollars of revenue. Careful management of new versus legacy products was required to drive growth and maintain existing revenue streams.• Successfully released multiple new hardware add-in cards per year along with required support software and device drivers. Transitioned design programs between remote locations to provide proper load balancing of engineering staff and driving broad skill base across all our sites.• Directed shutdown of the Newark, CA and St. Paul, MN design centers and ensured successful migration of design knowledge, protection of critical revenue and continuation of high levels of product support with a 70% reduction of overall headcount.• Led the multi-site technology separation of the commercial and military businesses. Ensured that projects, information, revenue and support were properly transitioned between the two groups within 6 month time constraint before the new fiscal year began.• Assumed primary contact for Tier 1 customer, Nortel. Learned our Fiber Channel driver, remotely debugged intermittent monthly field failures and implemented fixes that could be easily deployed. Quickly turned Nortel from a distressed customer into a key promoter.

Researched and presented new technologies to engineers and customers, integrated this technology in new product designs, designed system level architectures for complex customer solutions and was primary technical sales lead for high profile opportunities. Tracked critical silicon from major vendors like Intel and Mellanox, and used these to create future product roadmaps and systems which worked together to solve high bandwidth needs in the medical and semiconductor markets.• Awarded 1 of 3 Engineering Fellow positions for industry leadership in data movement technologies.• Developed InfiniBand Storage product which represented substantial change to the state of the art in embedded high speed redundant storage systems. Included definition of market needs, highly innovative system design/architecture, hardware development, software development and contract management. Successfully met extremely aggressive schedule on beta product; 2.5 months from kick off to delivery.• Promoted product lines into the Medical market, worked with sales to identify new customers, learned their requirements, pitched appropriate products and assisted with closing deals. Success resulted in being primary contact for GE Health Care and achieved 5 consecutive successful design wins with the MRI modality.• Recognized as expert in embedded community (specifically related to I/O technologies and system level design) by critical customers like GE and Nortel; participated in customer’s internal design reviews and future product planning sessions.

Controlled new product introductions, defined new product needs and oversaw product roadmaps for many commercial market segments including medical, security and semiconductor. Responsible for aligning new product features with customer and market needs. • Collaborated with sales, FAEs, customers and upper management to ensure newly introduced products found early sales opportunities, quick revenue growth and a knowledgeable sales and support staff.

Directed all hardware and software engineering projects and personnel at the St. Paul facility, with as many as 25 team members including design, technical support and configuration management. • Released two major projects in a single year; dataBLIZZARD and Omnispan. The dataBLIZZARD project included device drivers for 5 operating systems for the initial hardware release. • Lead a common software tools team focused on standardizing design tools for all technology sites worldwide.

Responsible for all software projects and personnel. • Defined and introduced a new device driver architecture for our bus adapter hardware. The device drivers went from 30% code sharing to 80% code shared between five operating system versions. • Sole software design and support engineer for all products sold to GE Health Care after an extended history of excellent debugging at customer’s site.
