I worked closely with 35 school districts in northwest Washington state on issues involving school safety, crisis intervention, emergency management, attendance (including chronic absenteeism, truancy, and Community Truancy Boards), behavioral mental health, drug and alcohol abuse prevention and education, and a variety of related topics. My focus as a member of the NWESD Behavioral Health and Prevention Services team was to help school districts recognize, plan for, and recover from critical incidents ranging from active shooters on campus to major natural disasters.

The Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross served Whidbey Island, western Skagit County and all of the islands of the San Juan archipelago in northwest Washington State. It was my honor to serve as the last Executive Director for the chapter. The work involved working closely with emergency management professionals, government entities, business leaders, community organizations, and volunteers throughout the region. An exceptional team of Red Cross volunteers combined to make my job both possible and incredibly fulfilling. Balancing responsibilities for communications, administration, volunteer coordination, government and industry relationships, and fund raising was challenging. We had many successes over a little more than a year. It was with great sadness that I left the Red Cross when the position disappeared when a nationwide reorganization combined the former Islands Chapter with the former Mount Baker Chapter. I continue to volunteer for the Red Cross and have committed to served on the board of directors for the new chapter.

I worked with a strong and uniquely talented group of volunteers who responded 24/7 to medical emergencies, rescues, and fires. My duties included personnel management, day to day operations, budgeting, and financial management.
