I have 20 years experience in general engineering and computing with a specialist background in mechanical engineering and analysis of pipework vibration and other structural and asset integrity issues. I have worked globally both onshore and offshore and have an in-depth knowledge of finite element, acoustic simulation and measurement systems and their application to assessing piping integrity problems. I also specialise in the analysis, simulation and measurement of water hammer and flow induced pulsation and related vibration issues in piping, corrugated risers, firewater and pumped systems.I work across a range of disciplines both engineering, environmental, government policy and technical project management. I also have experience of commercial and contract law, intellectual property and planning (residential and industrial developments).Some of my particular areas of expertise or experience include:- Pipeline vibration measurement and integrity assessments;- Fire-water System Analysis and Water Hammer Analysis of liquid pipelines;- API618, 619 and API674 analysis of reciprocating equipment;- Pipeline flow assurance;- 3rd party evaluation of sub-sea piping designs and post-installation assessment for offshore facilities;- Vibration and noise monitoring;- Design and manufacturing of environmental and industrial measurement systems including deployment in hazardous areas;- Planning and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA);- Specialist in planning and undertaking structural and ground-borne vibration measurement;- Specialist in RCA analysis of operating and dynamic valve design and manufacturing including end-to-end investigations of complex failure. I have also developed a number of bespoke techniques and technologies:- Measurement of pipework integrity using high-speed cameras;- High sample rate and channel count real-time data acquisition systems in C# with National Instruments, Dewesoft, Data Translation and Measurement Computing hardware;- Bespoke server/desktop and web-based applications for engineering analysis and signal processing;- Custom integration of remote monitoring systems and network infrastructures and associated monitoring hardware.- Modbus and OPC translation tools and libraries.- Butterfly valve flutter sensor monitoring system.I run several community engineering initiatives including the OpenNoiseProject.I am also a STEM Ambassador.
