In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate classes, I investigate the developmental course of marital distress and dissolution. As a science, psychology knows far more about the impact of divorce than its etiology. To better understand the antecedents of marital discord, I examine the behaviors, cognitions and emotions of young couples. I am currently expanding on this research by determining if it applies to the poor and people of color.
