About Marcus Peterson

I have significant experience and expertise in health care policy regarding both state and federal legislative and regulatory issues impacting the health insurance industry. Specifically, I am the subject matter expert in both private and public health care insurance including Commercial, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid in my current role as Senior Strategic Policy Consultant at Blue Cross of North Carolina (BCNC). I am responsible for the development and prioritization of BCNC’s legislative and regulatory policy response across business segments on issues ranging from coverage options, provider payment, prescription drugs, surprise billing and others. In my previous roles, I have been responsible for developing advocacy strategies for access to health care coverage in Medicaid, promoting the value of Medicaid and Medicare managed care, and improving the overall health care delivery system. I also worked towards building and managing coalitions through issue area advocacy and organizing with other health plans and stakeholders through various health industry trade associations and interest groups. My previous health care policy and advocacy experience includes positions with Anthem, Inc., the National Conference of State Legislatures, and the National Alliance of State & Territorial AIDS Directors.
