About Brian Hancock

President of Inventit Products Inc. and Parable Devices, a company that is producing add-on devices to manual wheelchairs and power chairs.Past Experience: At Weir-Minerals Division (6 years experience) I became the R&D specialist for the engineering dept. One of my projects was to use Rocky DEM software to generate surface wear simulations and ball trajectories for industrial ball mill liners. I also researched 3D scanning technology for modeling the inside of ball mills. I helped design & develop a software for streamlining manufacturing production. The software increased on-time-delivery by ~70% in the first month. I designed many molds for polyurethane and rubber wear parts. I designed and built (with others) an automated lining machine that rotates 30" dia. x 40FT long pipe. It sprays polyurethane wear material throughout the inside of the pipe. This required proficiency in strengths of materials, failure analysis, motor sizing & selections, rotational timing, electrical controls & automated switching, and included polyurethane spray technology R&D. I oversaw the continuous improvement of the polyurethane production line for several years after.During my 8 month internship at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) I was able to design compression and shear testing machinery using 3D CAD modeling software. I created several software tools using VBA. I wrote several applications that automatically import, process, and analyze data from different biomass-testing machines. I used flow theory to create a tool in excel that optimizes hopper designs. I programmed routines for machine travel of an Instron load frame. At All Pipe Works I created CAD drawings for pipe fabrication. I also derived several equations for pipe-cut patterns, and made a tool in excel to quickly generate a cut-pattern for the different pipe sizes and mounting angles. The company is pleased with this and has been using it for 10 years now. While attending BYU-Idaho my major was Mechanical Engineering, with emphasis in machine design and robotics. For our junior capstone project, my team and I successfully created a light-weight add-on that motorizes a manual wheelchair. This required R&D with brushless motors and micro-controllers.For our senior capstone project, my team and I designed and built a clothing measurement device that is used for getting your clothing measurements without assistance. The Beehive Clothing Company, that we designed it for, was very pleased and is interested in presenting the device at the ASTM conference.

Listed skills include Matlab, Mathematica, Cad/Cam, Cad Design, and 20 others.

Inventit Products Inc. is an innovative product development company that focuses on designing practical solutions catered to the customer need. As president, I manage product design and prototype creation, and assure market validation at every phase of development. I specialize in machine design and mechatronics. We have developed a wheelchair add-on for motorizing manual wheelchairs (Patent No. 10,758,436 ), and are designing an automated pipe cutting machine for All Pipe Works Inc..

Mar 2019 - Present

Mechanical Design Engineer

At all pipe works I read field drawings and created 2D and 3D mechanical drawings for pipe fabrication.I also created an automated way for creating custom pipe cut patterns for an industrial pipe fabrication shop. This included deriving trigonometric equations for each joint type and variation of sizes, thicknesses, and angles. I was then contracted to design a pipe cutting CNC machine to remove the pattern process and hand-torching altogether. I designed the $150,000 machine from the bottom up, including: sizing hydraulics, designing gear trains, kinematic & ergonomic optimization, programming firmware (C++) to control stepper motors, relays, limit switches, and 220V VFD controls. I 3D modeled the entire assembled machine, part by part, and worked with fabricators to make each part. I designed and coded a software (using VB.net) to facilitate layman user entry. The software communicates with the microcontroller firmware giving machine motion coordinates X (pipe roll), Y (torch axial location) & B (torch angle). Designed and built CNC machine controls box.
