Meg Kemp is an environmental and occupational epidemiologist with a wide range of experience in epidemiology, toxicology, database management, exposure assessment, and risk assessment of airborne chemicals. She specializes in occupational epidemiology, quantitative exposure reconstruction, and human health risk assessment. Ms. Kemp earned a B.A. in Biology from Emory University and an M.S.P.H. in Environmental and Occupational Health and Epidemiology from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Her thesis work involved analyzing pulmonary function data and evaluating occupational, recreation, and household exposure routes for workers and household contacts at five sites in the U.S. that processed asbestos-containing vermiculite ore from Libby, Montana. More recently, she has been involved in researching, reconstructing dose and exposure, and assessing risk to consumers, communities, and workers exposed to a variety of chemical and biological materials. Her experience includes investigating the health effects of exposure to a variety of compounds, including asbestos, talc, PFAS, vermiculite, hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, diacetyl, and radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RFEMF).

Project Manager/EpidemiologistGza Geoenvironmental, Inc. Jan 2019 - Mar 2023Boulder, CoPrepared quantitative assessments for airborne asbestos exposures associated with multiple scenarios, including occupational, bystander, and take-home exposures related to asbestos-containing products and the use of cosmetic talc-containing consumer products. This work involves comprehensive literature reviews of published and unpublished exposure data as well as quantitative exposure reconstruction using current or historical industrial hygiene and exposure simulation data.performed numerous comprehensive reviews of the epidemiology literature to support clients in understanding the risk of disease associated with occupational, environmental, and take-home exposures to asbestos, talc, and PFAS substances.Performed a review of the epidemiology literature evaluating the relationship between perineal use of cosmetic talc-containing products and the risk of ovarian cancer and provided an overview of the findings.Evaluated the potential human health effects associated with long- and short-chain PFAS and PFAS mixtures and provided an overview of the available epidemiology literature with a focus on the health endpoints assessed by various regulating authorities. -
Independent ConsultantSelf-Employed Jan 2018 - Jan 2019Greater Denver AreaProvided litigation support on cases related to potential benzene and asbestos exposure from historical products.
-
Navajo Rug RestorerSelf-Employed Apr 2016 - Mar 2018Longmont, CoPerformed repairs and restorations on Navajo textiles, including warp repair, end and side cord replacements, and reweaving holes. Blended natural and dyed wool to match original yarn, and handspun all yarn required for repairs.

Senior Associate Health ScientistCardno Chemrisk Jun 2010 - Mar 2015San Francisco, Ca And Boulder, CoPerformed litigation support for experts testifying about occupational exposures to asbestos, diacetyl, and benzene. Managed work teams for two of the company's largest asbestos clients. Prepared budgets and invoices for new and historical clients. Assisted with a series of epidemiology studies assessing the pulmonary function in flavorings workers exposed to diacetyl. Prepared occupational exposure assessments. Performed systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses for asbestos exposure and non-traditional health outcomes, such as cancers of the larynx, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, colon, and ovaries. -
Environmental Epidemiology InternAgency For Toxic Substances And Disease Registry (Atsdr) / Cdc Jun 2009 - May 2010Atlanta, GaAnalyzed spirometry data gathered at 5 Libby, Montana daughter sites as a part of the National Asbestos Health Program (NAHP), and assessed the prevalence of abnormal spirometry in workers and household contacts exposed to Libby vermiculite. Prepared a thesis manuscript detailing the findings of this project. -
Graduate Field ResearcherRollins School Of Public Health At Emory University Feb 2009 - Jun 2009Atlanta, GaPerformed spirometry testing and environmental monitoring on children enrolled in a pediatric air pollution study in the Atlanta area. Assessed symptoms via direct interviews with parent/guardian. Prepared personal air sampling devices, and collected and stored filters for analysis. Calibrated testing equipment. -
