Megan Renwick originally trained as a Forensic Chemist specialising in Forensic Archaeology of Indigenous stone tools before undertaking her Diploma of Education 26 years ago, majoring in Science and Mathematics. Throughout her university studies and her early teaching career she managed two local Blue Mountains cafes with a hands-on approach, both front and back of house, setting her passion for the Hospitality industry and gaining vital industry experience. After returning to teaching following a 3-year secondment in the inaugural position of Australian Educational Officer for NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), Megan was offered the opportunity to retrain in Hospitality (dual qualifications); taking on the position of VET trainer, VET Co-ordinator for the school and was integral in the development of a dual site Trade Training Centre. In this time, Megan realigned the Hospitality training program of the school with the inception of a holistic practical experience learning environment; opening a student led school cafe, @thecaeinelab. In the following years over a quarter of the school’s annual cohort were successfully awarded a Hospitality trade Certificate. Megan's contribution to vocational education, the school and broader community were recognised by the Minster for Education through a registered ministerial letter and in 2020 through the award of NSW VET Teacher/ Trainer of the Year. Megan has since worked passionately to promote the value of vocational education and training as an Australian and NSW VET Ambassador and is now currently fulfilling the role of VET Teacher Training Officer for the Department of Education.
