An award-winning journalist, Megan Cloherty is a senior reporter and 10p anchor at KOAA News 5 in Colorado Springs/ Prior to this role, Megan worked as an investigative reporter exclusively covering enterprise, in-depth stories for Southern Colorado's news leader.In her investigative reporting, Megan focuses on following a thread in a storyline and the broader impact that one company's bad action, one politician's corrupt move, or an on-going failure of public service can have on the community as a whole.Megan previously worked as an investigative reporter at WTOP News in Washington DC where she primarily covered breaking news and crime and courts. As the co-creator and host of "22 Hours: An American Nightmare," Megan and her colleague Jack Moore piece together the details of the investigation into the 2015 torture and murder of a wealthy businessman, his wife, their 10-year-old son and their housekeeper found in a burning D.C. mansion. While the two reporters share the challenges of putting together a podcast, they relay insights from witnesses speaking off the stand, talk with jurors about reaching a guilty verdict, examine the strategy of both the prosecution and defense and hone in on the case's unanswered questions.In her recent reporting, Megan has followed up with lawmakers looking into how school hiring oversight and law enforcement resources must change after dozens of children were abused by a Charles County, Maryland coach after investigators had enough evidence in hand to file charges.A National Headliner winner, Megan also won the SPJ Watchdog Award for the DC area in 2023 and among other regional awards, received Reporter of the Year from the Chesapeake Regional AP chapter five times as well as its Best in Show award, naming her the top reporter in the market among radio and television journalists. Megan and Jack's podcast went to No.2 on Apple Podcasts and was named runner-up in the AP's Best Podcasts of the Year in 2019.Megan is from the DC-area and ventured out to the midwest for undergrad at the University of Missouri before earning her Master of Arts degree at American University.
