Megan Drake-Pereyra currently serves as the Public Health Infrastructure Advisor at ASTHO. She has over 18 years of experience in public health. Prior to joining ASTHO, Megan worked for 13 years at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). As their Performance Improvement Consultant she provided consultation, training, and technical assistance internally to other MDH divisions and externally to local health departments primarily on public health planning, quality improvement, performance management, customer focus, and accreditation. She also served as a member of the leadership team for the Emerging Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Response Section managing multiple programs and staff focused on the section’s training, guidance development, and quality assurance efforts. At ASTHO, Megan’s work is similar and covers similar topics. She provides consultation, coaching, capacity building, and technical assistance on foundational capabilities-related topics to ASTHO’s members, with a particular focus on its island members. In other words, Megan helps people, teams, and organizations plan, solve problems, manage change, operate efficiently and effectively, operationalize their visions, and develop sustainable, long-term solutions. All of this she does with an eye towards building others’ knowledge, skill, ability, and confidence. She firmly believes that if she does her job right, she will be out of a job.Megan also has experience working in rural and urban local health departments in Minnesota and in rural communities internationally. Her experience spans public health topics ranging from chronic disease, infectious disease, environmental health, and maternal and child health to epidemiology and surveillance, public health systems and planning, and foundational capabilities. She considers herself a public health generalist with specific skills in group facilitation, quality improvement, performance management, customer focus, training, assessment, planning, and evaluation. She previously held Certified Health Education Specialist and Six Sigma Green Belt certifications and has extensive professional development and training in facilitation, strategic planning, and evaluation. She is also fluent in Spanish. Megan believes her career's purpose is to foster safe and supportive environments that allow individuals, communities, and the organizations that serve them to collaborate and measurably change and improve systems and structures in order to positively impact the health, well-being, and quality of life of individuals and communities.
