I investigated effects of maternal diabetes on the hearts of developing embryos using a chicken embryo model. In this internship I chose the project I believed had the most potential, wrote or modified protocol as necessary, and reported to the principal investigator on my progress.I used optical coherence tomography to image embryo hearts under normal conditions and hyperglycemia. I wrote and modified MatLab code to analyze the images as needed.

Studied gene regulation in the bacteria Bacillus subtilis. Techniques performed included: PCR, primer design, cloning, western blot, lyophilization, and protein purification.

Helped demonstrate and teach self defense skills to students taking the class. Communicated techniques and expertise to a wide range of skill levels in a professional manner.
