I was Mission Coordinator for eXXpedition Caribbean 2016, a month-long sailing voyage conducting the first ever microplastics sampling in the Caribbean Sea as well as outreach efforts on five island nations regarding waste management, ocean plastic pollution and education. Megan was the Deckhand on this voyage and played an integral role as a member of the Core Crew. Her excellent knowledge of sailing and environmental issues, as well as her positive attitude, hardworking nature and dedication to the crew's safety and well-being was vital to the success of the project. She also played an important role in community outreach - presenting to school groups and various community organisations on multiple islands - helping to communicate and educate around complex environmental and social issues.
