Archaeology Collections Technician

With a mandate to preserve, promote and identify provincially significant historical, archaeological, architectural and natural heritage resources, the OHT collection's technician is involved in collections management work related to database work; records management; conservation and collection development work.Specific projects include:• Re-house Ashbridge artifacts (de-accessioned materials at the site in the carriage house). • Assist with the preparation and delivery of the Spadina Museum archaeological collection to the City of Toronto. (June estimate)• Plan and develop social media posts for July-August on archaeology collections (to be completed by mid-June). Follow former templates on SharePoint. This year will be based on collections work and artifacts.• Intake of one indigenous archaeology collection – document and rehouse artifacts with assistance (Nochemowanaing - to begin in June). Possible event in summer at site or reserve, develop materials/exhibit as appropriate.• Work on Ashbridge reference collection development as needed. This will involve data entry into M3, scanning artifacts, possible photography.• 2022 Inventory of lab and storage room (with assistance) using Re-Org process. (begin end of July into August). • Assist with and organize documentation and collection data for the development of an indigenous artifact collections. This may involve collaboration with an external partner. (May also begin earlier in the internship). This will involve selection of artifacts from three collections from one site, developing spreadsheet list and descriptions and photos of each artifact and coordinate with consultant to finalize list including a separate list for photography and/or scanning.• File management; Pulling artifacts as required and tracking artifact movement. Attend All Staff meetings; ACS staff meetings and meetings as assigned.
