She started her career at Elsevier as a managing editor for physics titles. Bahar received her Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from the University of Amsterdam (UvA) in 2010 and was a postdoc researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL) before joining Elsevier in 2012.Bahar's recent publications included the impact of COVID-19 lockdown on women academics, gender bias in peer review at large scale, peer review quality perceptions, and the impact of a pilot experiment she ran on open peer review on reviewer behavior.
