I began working in education during the 1998-1999 school year at Corcoran High school teaching Biology. Being a small high school, I had opportunities to be involved. During the six years at Corcoran High, I was involved in: teaching biology and AP Biology, coaching volleyball and basketball, Activities Director, and Assistant Principal. I then married and moved to Visalia Unified. I have been in VUSD for the last eleven years. During the first five years, I have served the community at El Diamante High School as a Learning Director and Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction. Since 2009, I have served 1,000 plus students each year as Principal of La Joya Middle School. I have loved every minute of it. Besides serving my school, I model the importance of always learning. I love to read. Some of my favorite professional authors are: Doug Fisher, Nancy Frey, Simon Sinek, Brene Brown, Tim Kanold, Mike Mattos, and Patrick Lencioni. Now, I am moving beyond just reading to actually doing. I have begun the journey to become an expert in my field with the doctoral course work and dissertation process through Brandman University. My goal is to transform the way we educate students to ensure that learning is always relevant, engaging and rigorous with the support of adults who motivate, inspire, and develop positive relationships with their students.
