PlanG is a consumer product that enables individuals to give to the causes they care about most - schools, churches, and charities. PlanG manages giving through a centralized financial account connecting all aspects of giving for the consumer. PlanG provides an engagement platform for employers, retail partners, and loyalty programs to participate by contributing to an individual's account, and benefit from a lasting brand impression.This entrepreneurial venture focuses on meeting the needs of three key stakeholders in the philanthropic ecosystem: nonprofits, businesses, and donors through an electronic engagement platform. It connects individuals to more than one million nonprofits and member fundraisers, enables them to discover new causes or search for nonprofits, manages giving through a centralized financial account, and enables employers, retail partners, and loyalty platforms to participate. The company, which I founded with two partners, has been featured in Forbes, Fast Company, Virginia Business Magazine, and other publications.

I was hired by Core Management to leverage my senior management, turnaround and problem solving skills to coach C suite executives and lead the company’s consulting arm.My engagements included managing a $15 million fundraising campaign for the United Way of Greater Richmond and leading the initiative to re-engineer the Virginia Farm Bureau’s sales and field operations support model. I also completed engagements with Owens & Minor, Gumenick Properties, Covenant Woods, ARC and more.

When the VP of Strategy & Innovation for Owens & Minor was tapped to lead a new global initiative in Europe, he selected me to take over his role in his absence.I lead the completion of a three-year, $55 million strategic system development program which involved managing 11 different technology projects and project managers and coordinating each project’s executive sponsors. To improve performance and business understanding in the US and Europe, I leveraged my technology and business experience to lead the development of new specialized communications and workflow portals.

My challenge in this role was to merge the Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina state chapters into an integrated, $6 million, regional charter organization. My team consisted of 26 employees, 15 regional board members, 60+ state board members, and 400+ volunteers.Under my leadership, the regional organization successfully adapted to the changing role of the national organization, including the priorities and style of its new CEO, culture, and priorities.One of my achievements in this position was to deliver the South’s first smoke-free restaurant legislation; I worked collaboratively with other major health organizations, medical associations, and the healthcare community on the initiative. I also set the tone and direction of the region’s comprehensive advocacy efforts and agenda and helped ALA create its first nationwide development strategy and model.

When I assumed leadership of this organization that covered 33 municipalities, it had been without a leader for six months and had significant financial and operational weaknesses. My first task was to identify the underlying organizational weaknesses.To address the issues, I identified, recruited, and hired a top-notch management team and created an environment that attracted talent and enabled them to grow professionally. Among those I hired was an auditing CPA who managed the finance department and rebuilt the chapter’s financial structure and strength.By streamlining operations, launching new fund-raising initiatives, and building productive relationships with key donors and volunteers, in the first two years alone we were able to increase revenue 89%, decrease overhead 12.7%, and increase corporate sponsorships 315%. To strengthen board satisfaction, I generated new enthusiasm for the chapter’s mission and services and increased board member involvement. In addition, we implemented a number of initiatives that dramatically increased the number of chapter members. Membership increased more than 300% over my tenure.I was selected to participate in a national re-branding effort and to co-lead a precedent-setting, voluntary regional collaboration of 11 Southeastern chapters focused on creating a new cultural attitude of organizational shared accountability.

After serving as Director of Leadership Giving for the United Way of Pinellas County, Florida, I was promoted to focus on major donors in the Richmond chapter and lead a $23+ million annual campaign. I drove a 76% increase in major donor revenue and attained the organization’s first $100,000 donor. The United Way of America recognized my performance with two major awards.
