Someone told me when I was in x-ray school that they could see me being a teacher someday. I didn't think much about that until an opportunity presented itself almost 10 years later. I have been the Radiography Program Director at State Tech for almost 11 years and am passionate about training future radiologic technologists.In my current role, I oversee the radiologic technology program. This includes:• Maintaining program accreditation• Planning, developing, and evaluating radiography curriculum• Evaluating student learning outcomes• Developing program policies and procedures • Establishing valuable stakeholder relationships• Developing program admission criteriaI entered the workforce in 2004 as a radiologic technologist and soon had the opportunity to train in mammography. I became passionate about mammography – from patient care and education to performing breast procedures. This sparked a desire to further my education and I earned a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration. With this degree, I was qualified to become a radiography program director, which has allowed me to give back to the profession by training future x-ray technologists. The courses I have taught or currently teach include:• Introduction to Radiologic Technology & Healthcare• Patient Care & Education• Radiation Protection• Radiographic Exposures• Sectional Anatomy• Radiation Physics• Radiation Biology• Job Search StrategiesTeaching in the classroom is not the only method of giving back to the profession. I believe that mentoring is a way to help students and faculty succeed. Some of my accomplishments that revolve around mentoring include:• Establishing the Missouri Iota Epsilon Chapter of Lambda Nu• Developing a student peer mentoring program• Participating in the college’s new faculty mentoring program• 4DX Team Captain• Faculty Senate Representative While I am proud of these accomplishments, I tend to measure my own success through the successes of my students and graduates. The radiography program at State Tech is known for its consistently high ARRT examination pass rates and job placement rates.My colleagues would tell you that I am dedicated to the field and determined to help my students succeed. They would also tell you that I am loyal, organized, and an excellent planner. Outside of my profession, I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, reading, cooking, and traveling.
