I love education because I know it can change lives. It’s why I became a teacher in the first place. As a child, I had incredible experiences with people who cared about my future and invested their time in enabling my potential. I know every child doesn’t have access to people and opportunities like that. Yet. Every day, I empower teachers to take on that mission with me, giving children from all income backgrounds access to the education they deserve. In children’s youngest years, we set the tone for their relationship with education, one that will last a lifetime. It’s my life mission to make sure it’s the right tone. One that empowers and allows them to reach their maximum potential. I’m proud to say I’ve made learning a good experience for hundreds of kids in my community - kids I take selfies with every time I go to the Apple store or the bank. Teaching looks a little different today than it ever has throughout the first 30 years of my career. As an administrator in this unknown territory, we’re still centered on students, but we also have to dedicate energy to our teachers and to give them the tools they need. From bilingual translators that help families log in to uploading documents, problem after problem will emerge. Successful teams have to capitalize on what’s working, the challenges, and next steps. No matter what comes at us, we will make it happen for children.
