Capitalising on her degree in Materials Engineering and Science Melissa has been immersed in applied research and consultancy projects in the bitumen, asphalt and pavement materials space. Her current role in the Sustainability and Material Performance Group sees her working closely with State Road Agencies, Local Government and bodies such as Sustainability Victoria and Tyre Stewardship Australia, on projects focusing on effective implementation of sustainable materials in road infrastructure, including management of demonstration trials and technical specification development. She is also a Technical Advisor to Ecologiq.During her time at ARRB she has gained extensive experience in laboratory testing of bitumen and asphalt and has also worked in the Asset Management and Knowledge Transfer and Marketing groups. Melissa is also the lead author of ARRBs Sealed Roads Best Practice Guide.In 2017–18 Melissa undertook a secondment to VicRoads as a Pavement Technology Engineer, Asset Services as well as undertaking the role of Road Delivery Engineer for the Maintenance Team, Metropolitan South East. During her time in Asset Services she was involved in regular road surface inspections, specification reviews and updates, delivery of training on pavement cracking, pavement cracking data collection and validation, as well as providing technical advice on delivery projects including major road projects (for Major Road Projects Authority) and SRRIP (Safe System Road Infrastructure Program) projects. Her involvement in the Maintenance Team saw her administer a $2.2M road rehabilitation project for the region which involved contract development, procurement, and managing the delivery of the project including stakeholder and media engagement.A capable project manager and leader, Melissa is recognised for being a logical yet lateral thinker who is able to analyse, critique and synthesise information effectively. Through her project work and involvement in engagement activities she has demonstrated her ability to communicate with diverse range of people and build valuable and operative relationships.
