I've been offering freelance media relations services to various businesses and non-profit organizations including animal shelters and local sororities.

I have been providing media relations assistance to the owners of the Forest Acres location of Baskin Robbins since 2008, specifically with publicizing the annual "31 Cent Scoop Night" to raise money for national and local fallen fire fighters. It has been my job to draft the news release; contact the media; invite local media personalities to serve as "celebrity ice cream scoopers" for the evening; be available for interviews; create a social networking page to publicize the event; to post the event on community calendars and websites; to send the information to local schools, libraries and businesses; to be on hand to direct the news media where to set up video cameras; and to assist in taking pictures of the event.

Program Assistant to the Instructional Standards and Support Section of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. I currently assist in the electronic transfer of files from the Academy's former Law Enforcement Training System to the new Acadis server. Have been tasked with determining which files are necessary to remain in the Academy's Testing Retention Files. I research federal law enforcement training accreditation guidelines in order to obtain the Academy's re-accreditation. I research other statewide law enforcement academies in order to compare national training with the SC Criminal Justice Academy's training. I assist in the delivering and collection of the national Nelson Denny Reading Comprehension Test. I assist in proctoring tests given to Academy law enforcement students.

Media relations liaison and public information coordinator. Composed and sent out all press releases on behalf of the Academy. Created and maintained a master list of media contacts in order to keep the news media abreast of Academy-related news. Created and maintained a list of state government and law enforcement Public Information Officers in which to keep other agencies informed of newsworthy Academy events. Spear-headed successful events such as Media Day (May 2007) in which members of the media from throughout the state were invited to tour the Academy. Also garnered positive media attention for the Academy's Families Helping Families Cookout (October 2007) in which Lucas McFadden from WIS came out to do a live broadcast during the station's mid-day report. Obtained press coverage for the Academy's Families Helping Families Road Race (November 2007). Successfully rallied media coverage for the Academy's Accident Reconstruction Demonstration (February 2008 and September 2008). Organized a media relations panel comprised of print, broadcast, news radio and new media journalists from across the state to speak at the 2008 Chief's Workshop (February 2008). Served on the statewide SC Public Information Officers networking group (March 2008 through the present). Served on the committee to create the Academy's first newsletter (September 2008 through the present). Served on the committee to revise and edit the Academy's website (September 2008 through the present).

Performed research and shelved books. Taught patrons how to use the Internet and various CD-ROM computers, which were available for public use. Aided patrons in finding books and suggested reading material to patrons according to grade and reading level. Designed and updated the children's page of the Irmo Library's web site. Planned after-school programs for children in grades 1-6, and a Young Adults group for middle and high school students. Started the library's first 'Young Adults' group, which consisted of 2 separate groups of teens and preteens in grades 7-9 and 10-12.
