I help manage Napatree Point as a conservation area and coastal resiliency demonstration site, through a broad array of scientific studies, public engagement, and enforcement of town ordinances.

I was the laboratory technician for the entire Physics and Earth Sciences Department at Framingham State University.

I taught an introductory marine biology course to high school students for college credit during 3-week sessions, while sailing around the Leeward Islands on a 47-ft catamaran. The course combined experiential education, practical application of skills, labs and field survey techniques, along with cultural activities, service learning and adventure activities in order to inspire youth in the field of marine biology and conservation.

For my graduate research I investigated the cause of the carbon isotope minima at the onset of the last deglaciation by compiling over 100 published planktonic foraminiferal δ13C records from deep sea sediment cores. My responsibilities and acquired skills included:• Produced global spatial maps using Ocean Data Viewer and GeoMapApp to better visualize data trends• Compiled, organized, analyzed, and applied statistical analyses on large data sets using MATLAB and Excel• Mastered Microsoft Office Suite for large document writing and editing, data set analysis and manipulation, and presentations and posters• Completed and presented Master's Thesis to the Marine Sciences Department at the University of ConnecticutAs a teachcing assistant for the undergraduate and graduate class Measurement and Analysis in a Coastal Ecosystem, I taught students field work techniques, lab and data analyses by designing and executing experiments in a local marine habitat. My responsibilities included:• Instructed students on field sampling techniques, data collection, and laboratory analysis for physical parameters, chlorophyll, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, fecal coliform, and primary production• Led small groups of undergraduate students in field sampling, both on foot and in kayaks• Advised students on technical report writing and reviewed their written and oral reports• Prepared lab for analyses, including reagents, standards, and lab equipment for benchtop analyses

I conducted research in a Paleoceanography/Paleoclimate laboratory focusing on analyzing δ18O and δ13C data, sampling of deep sea sediment cores, picking foraminifera for δ18O, δ13C, and radiocarbon analyses.Examples of my responsibilities included:• Analyzed δ18O and δ13C data from deep sea sediment cores using MATLAB• Researched and ordered new lab supplies and equipment, often talking with vendors about their product• Organized and maintained lab samples, supplies, and documents using Excel and Word• Ensured laboratory safety by maintaining conditions in accordance with OSHA standards• Trained new graduate and undergraduate lab members• Created and maintained the lab website: http://davidlund.wixsite.com/averypointpaleo

As a research technician in a maine ecosystems lab I conducted field work that entailed dawn sampling of embayments along Long Island Sound, with a main focus on monitoring water quality for eutrophic conditions and eelgrass (Zostra marina) beds.Examples of my responsibilities included:• Executed field sampling and laboratory analysis of macrophytes (biomass and elemental analysis), nutrients (phosphate, ammonium, nitrate, and nitrite) chlorophyll, total suspended solids, sediment grain size and percent organics• Recorded water quality measurements using handheld YSI multiparameter meter• Calibrated and used HOBO data loggers and handheld YSI multiparameter meters and sondes• Compiled and analyzed data from previous years using Excel to determine annual trends
